Frequently Asked Questions

What is an RV dump station?

An RV dump station (also called a sanitary dump station or sani-dump) is a facility where RV owners can empty their holding tanks — both black water (sewage) and gray water (sinks and showers). They typically include a ground-level sewer connection and a rinse hose.

Are RV dump stations free?

Many RV dump stations are free, especially those at public parks, rest areas, and some gas stations. Paid options typically range from $5 to $25 per use. Our directory lets you filter for free stations only.

How often should I dump my RV tanks?

Most RVers dump their tanks every 3-5 days with regular use, or when tanks are about two-thirds full. Never let your black tank get completely full, and always dump the black tank before the gray tank to help rinse the sewer hose.

Can I dump my RV tanks at home?

In most areas, you can dump your RV tanks into a residential sewer cleanout with a proper adapter. However, never dump into storm drains, and check your local regulations first. Many RVers prefer using dedicated dump stations for convenience.

What do I need to use a dump station?

You need a sewer hose (at least 15-20 feet), disposable gloves, a sewer hose support, and optionally a clear elbow connector to monitor flow. Many stations provide rinse water, but it is a good idea to carry your own supplies.
